While the sun is good for you and your plants, having your home drenched in sunlight at all times can increase the risk of damage to your furniture, especially if you have some antique pieces. Here are a few tips to help avoid that from happening!
Take Preventative Measures—Dust and polish regularly and use a protective coating whenever possible. This will keep the fabrics looking vibrant and the woods more moist so that they won't dry up and bleach out so easily.
Limit the Sun’s Rays—The sun can not only bleach out fabrics on your furniture, but also dry out and lighten up dark woods. Use curtains, blinds or a UV film you can add to your windows to block the harmful rays. You can easily open everything up when you have guests over to visit or every so often to air out the room.
Think about Heat—The sun isn’t the only potential source of damage. Heat vents blasting your furniture aren’t good for your antiques either. Keep the furniture a good distance from them. This will also help with your energy bills if the vents aren’t blocked as well!
