Your bedroom needs to be a sanctuary away from all the hustle and bustle of every day. Here are a few tips to help make yours a relaxing, quiet space.
Number 1 is Comfort - We spend one third of our time sleeping, so having a comfortable mattress, great pillows and soft sheets are what is most important.
Light Makes a Difference - Outside light can affect how well you sleep, so having room darkening shades or curtains can help be sure that outside lights or a bright moon doesn't disturb your sleep. Also having a variety of lights for different tasks helps you relax more. Bedside lamps for reading or maybe a dimmer for overhead lighting. Have a lamp you can easily turn off when you are snug in your bed helps you relax as well.
Temperature Control is Important - Being too hot in your bed or too cold can affect how well you sleep. Maybe changing out bedding seasonally or making sure you have your thermostat set appropriately will help you settle in and sleep well.
Soothing Sanctuary Colors - Bright and wild colors are amazing when you are up and about and need a boost of energy, but in the bedroom, it might actually affect your mood and then in turn, affect your sleep. Soothing colors actually calm you and when you are calm, you can rest and sleep better.
Create an Atmosphere - Put out fresh flowers or burn a candle before bed or have other relaxing scents in your room before you sleep. These little things can truly create an atmosphere of calm and beauty in your room. Also, limit or eliminate completely your electronic devices in your bedroom. These items don't promote a relaxing atmosphere. They generally represent all the busy-ness in our lives and we don't need those reminders while trying to fall asleep!
