Today's trend in decor is to paint the trim in homes. Black, white, cream or darker shades of the paint color on the wall. However, in a lot of vintage homes, stained trim was the trend. If you like the stain on the trim in your vintage home, here are a few tips to help you pick the paint color that might go well with your particular stain.
Medium Warm Stain - Earthy, warm tones would look well with this stain. Deep colors like a gray-blue or crimson red. Golden shades of yellow, terra cotta or an earthy green.
Dark Reddish-Brown Stain - Jewel tones or a dark shade can stand up to a dark trim, or you can go the opposite and have a lighter, neutral paint on the walls and add a darker floor. Or a mixture of both if you don't have a lot of natural light. Maybe a deep accent wall in a room full of neutral walls and a dark floor.
Light Stain - Pastel or Coastal shades will go well with this trim. It will keep the look light and airy. If you have a hardwood floor in the same light tone, opt to add a cool, soft colored area rug to go with your walls and keep some of that beautiful color of the wood showing.
Of course the choices are all up to you and what you feel is the best in your home. Maybe you will paint the trim...but you do have options if you don't!
