Good rest is something that is hard to come by at times. We need all the help we can get to achieve that in our lives so we can avoid all the problems that go with lack of sleep. Here are a few tips to follow so you can get the best rest possible every night.
Practicality First - Having a good mattress with good bedding is the absolute first step to a good night's sleep. No matter what other things you do to try to sleep well, if you are uncomfortable from the start, more than likely you won't get the best kind of sleep you need.
Same Time, Same Place - Try to get to sleep the same time each night. This helps you prepare your mind and body for what's ahead and also starts to regulate your body clock to be ready for sleep at that time.
Since You Know What's Coming - Also, since you now have a "bed time" then you plan your activities before that time to get you prepared to sleep. Drinking your extra water for the day an hour before bed isn't necessarily the wisest choice for uninterrupted sleep, nor is watched an adrenaline pumping show right before you lay your head down. Steer clear from things that may keep you up at night.
Quiet Time - If you aren't eating and drinking and watching a rambunctious show on TV, what SHOULD you be doing before you sleep? Well, if you are going to watch TV, watch something that makes you laugh or is really relaxing. Sometimes the LEAST thought provoking shows, or books to read are the best to get your mind settled and quiet for rest.
More Calming Ideas - Other things before bed that might help you rest your mind and body are:
1. A hot shower (this works for some while it wakes others up. Do what is best for you!)
2. Listen to calm, quiet music. (Not your favorite jam that makes you want to dance!)
3. Take a few moments just to breathe deeply and reflect on the good things in your day. (If your mind wanders easily and reminds you of all the things you didn't do or all the worries you have, then don't reflect! Just listen to your breathing for a bit.)
With these few tips maybe you can be on your way to a more blissful rest!
