Get Focused - Not only does an uncluttered office area help keep us focused, but so does an uncluttered mind. Each day, before you start work, take a few deep breaths and quiet your mind. Maybe even read a devotional or motivational passage as well. That way, you can concentrate on what needs to be done for the remainder of your work day.
Be Inspired - Every so often we take our eyes off our computer screens (or paperwork) and glance around the room. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing things you don't like or messes around you. Put things in your work space that inspire or make you happy like some good art work or pictures of your family. Keep messy distractions out of the space as well.
Change It Up - You may need to change your process of doing things. If you leave papers all over your desk because you are afraid you will "forget" things, start keeping a master list of projects/important things on your computer desk top--or even on your desk INSTEAD of keeping all the extra papers everywhere. This will save time in searching through the mess, and help keep you on task as well.
Keep it Clean - Only keep out the essentials. If you only use something once in a while, keep it put up in a cabinet or other storage space. Also, adapt this plan to putting things away "OHIO" Only Handle It Once. What ever needs to be filed (either digitally or otherwise) make a point to handle it ONCE and put it where it belongs. Don't make a "do it later" pile because before you know it, you will have a mess on your hands.
Be Committed - Commit to cleaning up your desk about twice a day. Do it before lunch and before you leave. That way, when you come in to your desk after lunch or in the morning, you will ready to go with a fresh start. Just this small commitment each day will help keep you and your office organized and ready to go!
