Only Buy From Tried and True - No matter how amazing a deal is or how much you really want an item, DON'T BUY IT unless you know the site you are shopping from or that the store is a legit store. If you see something on Facebook, or an ad for something that seems amazing, Google the item. You may see it listed on a site that you are familiar with or even at a store you shop at regularly. Clicking on an unfamiliar ad can cause your computer problems too. So beware!
Comparison Shop - Another smart thing to do is comparison shop between sites/stores. Something you see at a department store you might find on Amazon cheaper, or vice versa. Always check out several different sites before making that purchase. Some places that may usually cost more, just might be having a sale going on that would make the item cheaper. Things online are always changing, so you need to keep up. You might find a online store that becomes a new favorite!
Use Reviews - When you have a certain item you need/want, using reviews can really help to see what kind of features or issues a particular thing might have. An item might look like a fantastic deal, but, when you check out the reviews, if there are several complaining about the same issue, that might be something you need to think about. This is quite useful when you are buying a big purchase item especially.
Read the Fine Print - When shopping online, be sure to always read the description, details, dimensions, etc. Missing some of these details can cost you a lot of money and time, especially if you are holiday shopping.
Subscribe and Save - Sign-up for all of your favorite stores newsletters. They will send coupons, notices of sales and sometimes a code to get you a percentage off at their store. However, you WILL get a lot of these emails on a daily basis, so set up a folder in your email to collect them all so they don't mess with all your other important email. Then, you can look at them at your leisure and unsubscribe if you ever feel like one isn't worth all the effort.
Never Pay Shipping - A major rule to follow is NEVER PAY SHIPPING. If you can't get something online without paying a ton in shipping, then it isn't really saving you any money. However, in some instances, like say when ordering a furniture item, it might be well worth shipping if you don't have to pick it up yourself. However, most items that are that big, knock off the shipping when you have spent the money anyway, so it's a win-win. When you are holiday shopping and you are getting special items that may or may not be on sale, try to group several items together so you won't pay the shipping, too.
Shopping online has become a huge booming business. There is a lot of convenience that comes with shopping online and there are ways to get around paying extra for that convenience. You just need to know where to look and what secrets you can dig up!
