If you want to update and make sure your finances are operating at their best, here are a few things that can keep you on the right track.
Spruce Up Your Files - Take time to go through your file cabinet and digital files. You need to keep the last 7 years of tax returns and receipts that support those returns and you need to keep important papers such as birth certificates, car titles, marriage licenses, death certificates etc, in a safe place. Also, go through appliance books or other things you may keep in a file cabinet and only keep what you need. Get rid of books and instructions for things you don't have anymore. Being organized saves time--and time is money. Plus, knowing where important paperwork is keeps you from having to get that paperwork replaced which can cost you money and time as well.
Spruce Up Your Home Knowledge - It's good to keep up to date on your homeowner's insurance and what all it covers to see if you need to up your coverage or let some things go. Also, start a home inventory of all your belongings. This can come in handy if you ever have a disaster in your home through theft, flood, fire or something else.
Spruce Up Your Accounts - It's time to check your savings and your checking accounts to see if you are getting the best bang for your buck! There may be accounts you could get better interest on or you may have rewards or other features you aren't using. Maybe you are used to fees every month and you could change your account to a no fee one. Whatever the case may be, sometimes a little checking can go a long way!
Spruce Up Your Bills - Now lets review our bill statements. Check for changes in charges in a service you may have. Look for charges or fees you may have overlooked. Is there a way to decrease that bill? It's good to get in the habit of double checking every so often to see what you can change to keep costs down.
Spruce Up Your Savvy Sales Skills - Sign up for sales notices online, use digital and paper coupons. Check ads at your stores before you shop to see what you can save on. It's always good to keep an eye out for a good deal--and to switch up some things if you no longer need to know what is for sale at the Baby Store, but need to know deals on groceries!
Spruce Up Your Estate Plans and Your Will - Now it's time to check out your retirement savings, employer matches and and check stubs to see what all you can put away for the future. Sometimes you need just a little adjustment to make a big difference. Also, update your will to be sure your finances are all protected for your family in the future as well.
