We have lavish gardens and landscape in the summer and in the winter we decorate for the holidays--sometimes to a fault! BUT, the fall season sometimes can look a bit sad and empty right after the fullness of summer, so why not do your best to accent during the autumn so it won't seem so empty? Here are a few ideas to get you going...and then you can run with your own!
Accent Your Porch - If you have furniture on a big front porch, put some simple easy-to-wash throws on them so sitting outdoors in the lovely fall weather will be cozy. If you don't have a large porch to sit on, accent your front door with a lovely fall wreath or other door hanging. Also, place some pumpkins or lovely gourds in a basket or arrange them by the entry way as well. If you have very warm weather in the fall, be sure to check the pumpkins and gourds to make sure they don't spoil too quickly.
Accent Your Hanging Pots - If you have space for hanging pots, when they get removed by the end of summer, the space can look empty. Why not fill a couple of hanging pots with small pumpkins, pretty dry leaves and some fall colored decorative balls. Large pine cones or magnolia pods will add some rustic beauty as well. You will at least get a little more use out of those pots before putting away for the cold winter months.
Accent Garage & Patio - Another way to accent your home with autumn decor is to flank your garage doors with urns filled with fall mums or other fall flowers. Big pots on the patio will add some color as well. They are easy to care for and will keep some fresh outdoor color when a lot of the summer color is already faded.
Accent the Indoors - Inside, there are all sorts of fall items you can decorate with. If you want to add some homey comfort to a dinner table, use an heirloom quilt as a tablecloth in the fall or make a centerpiece with a cornucopia of fall fruits and mini gourds.
Fall doesn't last long before we are headed into the winter months. Take a few moments to enjoy all that it has to offer not only on the outside of your home, but on the inside as well.
