Red and Green are the Christmas color staples. No matter if it isn't Christmas, if you see those too colors together your mind immediately thinks of the Christmas season. Every so often, however, using different colors and textures can add some fun interest into your holiday decor. Here are a few ideas:
Make it Neutral--Or Not! - You can layer your tree and all of your accessories with different shades of a neutral color and it still be very festive. If neutral isn't for you, what about using a single color theme like a pink or blue or even just bright multi colors! There are all sorts of color combinations you can do to change the look of your holiday.
Shop Your Yard - Put some pinecones in a bowl, make a twig garland to lay on your mantle, gather some stones to put in a vase or add some greenery. If you see it outside, it might just add some Christmas beauty to the inside of your home!
Natural Says it All - Use natural textures or fibers in your decor as well. How about a burlap tree skirt or make some stockings from flour sacks or spell out a holiday message on reclaimed wood? Metal buckets filled with greenery or live plants indoors that smell good all can add some rustic beauty.
Re-Purpose - Do you have some old ornaments lying around that you just put back away every year? Re-purpose them in a different way. Maybe just spray a light coat of white paint (or color of your choice) on some old ornaments, or clean up others to give them some new shine. Take a new, plain wreath and use some of those old ornaments and garland by adding it to the wreath where you can still enjoy some of those old treasures, but, add some new space to your tree this year.
Add Some Sparkle - Whether you change to an all neutral palette for color this year, or maybe hues of all one color, or even add just wild bold colors, always add a little sparkle. Whether it's natural sparkle, like lit candles placed around mirrored, silver or gold objects, using white Christmas lights in areas to make things shine or all out glitter and iridescent items, having some sparkle makes whatever you use to decorate a bit magical.
If it's too late this year to start a new look, shop when it is closer to the end of the season and all the holiday decor goes on sale. Stock up on what you would need to create a whole new look at half (or even less) the price! It's never too early to start your plans for the next holiday season!
