A winter carry in, or pot luck, is a great way to get to know your neighbors or spend some time with friends. During the holiday season, we are so busy with parties and meals, you think you may never want to have a huge meal or deal with a lot of people again--only to find by mid-February, you are craving some time with those you care about and would love a cozy, comforting meal, but preparing it all yourself doesn't sound appealing. This fun meal time option is the way to go!
Come in From the Cold - First, invite your guests. This time of year is a good time to invite new neighbors, someone who might be alone in the winter or maybe a new work colleague. The winter months can be very isolating and inviting someone might just help them get through the long dark season a bit better! Make sure, however, you let your other guests know to make the new person welcome.
Keep it Cozy - Ask everyone to bring a dish of some sort! You can have a theme (taco night, everyone bring a topping or side) or not. You can also just have everyone bring their favorite dish, or ask some to bring veggie sides, desserts or even cups and napkins! You could have everyone tell a fun or silly fact about their dish. Just keep it simple and easy for everyone.
Break the Ice - Have some ways for everyone to get to know each other a little better at the dinner. Maybe name cards or have everyone introduce themselves and say something about their lives. Maybe have a game or two planned that will be fun.
A winter carry in can be a great way to touch base with those around you. Not only will you warm their heart, but yours as well. Who knows, you may make some new lasting friends to invite to your spring parties, too!
