One room we live in a LOT and generally will try to keep picked up is our family or living room. However, since we do use it so much, there are some things that need some extra cleaning at least once a year. Here are some tips to help you get it done well, so you can go back to just living!
THE LIVING ROOM
Lights On - Before you begin to super clean any room, turn on overhead lighting to make sure you don't miss cobwebs and other places dust collects. It's a good time to clean light fixtures if they need it as well.
Dust Bunnies Be Gone - Next, move your knick knacks and furniture around to get all the dust (and dust bunnies) removed from under the furniture and around things on shelves and tables and the baseboards. If you need to vacuum your upholstery, spray it with some sort of static guard and watch the pet hair easily clump up and be vacuumed away. Then finish your vacuuming and dusting in general.
Window Basics - Remove curtains and clean or freshen up in the dryer. If you have shades or blinds, be sure to clean and dust these as well. It's also a good time to clean your windows--at least inside if the weather won't permit it outside quite yet.
Finish the Floors - After all the above layers have been dusted and cleaned, it's time to make sure that your floors are mopped and rugs are cleaned. You can get some moist cleaning powder to use on your carpet, which can refresh it easily if deep cleaning isn't needed. If it is, you can rent a machine and do it yourself, or call someone to come in and clean your carpets.
Freshen it Up - Finally, spray some air freshener in the room to give it that "clean" smell. If it's nice outside, open the windows for some fresh air as well. Then enjoy the clean room. (If you have a family, it might not last for long!)--Jen Lush
