A bathroom is one of those rooms that we use so much that normal cleaning probably happens a bit more than other areas because we WILL clean it when it's gross. I mean, there is only so much we can take, am I right?! But there are a few things that probably get pushed back farther in the bathroom that we need to super clean at least once a year, don't you think?
The Usual - Of course, whenever you start to spring clean your bathroom, you do the usual first. Clean the toilet. Clean the sink and fixtures and scrub that tub and shower. All of this should be done more often than once a year for sure, but, usually when you decide to spring clean a bathroom, it won't feel all that clean if you don't do all of this first. When you do, then you can notice the details that get missed the rest of the year.
Dirt is in the Details - Now that the main things have been dealt with, get your vacuum and use the attachment for corners and suck up the dust around the baseboards. Super clean the grout in your tile whether its on the floor or in the shower. You can get a special cleaner for grout stains. Use some soap and water and wipe the baseboards for all the remaining dust that is stuck to them because of dampness and hair products that can tend to make the dust adhere.
Dusty Fixtures - Let's move on to the other dust in the room. Light fixtures need to be cleaned and dusted. Dust will collect on the toilet paper holder (toilet paper actually creates dust!) and even on parts of the towel racks. If you have any pictures or mirrors with frames, don't forget to not only clean them but to dust the frames as well. Depending on your vanity or if you have any other furniture in the bathroom, this is a good time to really wipe it down as well and put on some sort of wood protector, if the items are wood, so they will be protected longer in the moist environment.
Quarterly: Mats, Curtains and Blinds - Some of these items you may want to clean more than once a year, but others maybe not. If you have any blinds or curtains be sure to launder the curtains and dust/clean the blinds in more detail. Wash floor mats, clean area rugs and if you have a plastic shower curtain, I suggest replacing if it is stained, or if it is a cloth one, throw it in the washer as well.
Your Nose Knows - Last (but not least) find a way to add fresh smells to your bathroom. A plug in freshener, a fresh plant in the room or other lasting fresh scented item. This will keep the room feeling clean, longer, and make it a nice place to enter once again!
Today is the last of my Spring Cleaning series. Although there are bedrooms to clean, laundry rooms to clean, dining rooms to spruce up and home offices to organize, I don't want to overwhelm all of you nor remind myself how I am no expert on cleaning. In fact, this preacher has been preachin' to herself about all the things that need to be done this whole time and there is a fine line of getting oneself motivated and totally giving up because it's a never ending battle. Life is messy. Things happen. Spring Cleaning is great because you feel motivated to get some things done and let the freshness begin a new chapter, but, after that, there is too much to do on this earth than run the vacuum and dust furniture all the time. So LIVE YOUR LIFE. Enjoy this wonderful spring time and look forward to the lazy days of Summer! I know I am!
Until Next Time!
