I have written about this subject a couple of years ago, but, with travel weather getting into full swing, it's a good time to remind those of you who will be entertaining guests when they come for a visit (or who stay overnight on their way somewhere else) what helps make them feel comfortable and at home.
Smell Makes a World of Difference - The very first thing to make your guests feel good is to have a VERY CLEAN space for them. I mean so clean you can SMELL the clean. Shiny bathroom fixtures, super clean toilet, dust free room and just vacuumed floors--all of these things will make your guests feel safe and cozy when they are staying with you.
Give a Hotel Experience - Along with the space being clean, adding some hotel-like touches will add to the experience. A nice stack of clean towels in their room, or in a designated space in the bathroom, will make things easy to use. Sample size toiletries in the bathroom or in their room will be a nice touch in case they forget anything (small toothpaste tube, hair care products, small shower gel, bottles of lotion and other items). Make sure there is closet and drawer space if you can for them to use while they are there as well. Having a TV in the room with a channel directory and a card with the wifi password might be nice, too.
Food & Fun - Keep some "help yourself" type things in your home. A coffee or snack station, some reading material or maybe some small games or puzzles. These are all ideal for when they need to get something to eat or drink or keep themselves occupied if you have something else you need to do.
Be Prepared - Above all be prepared for anything. Have extra phone or gadget chargers for your guests to use, first aid kits and extra pillows and blankets. It might be nice to keep a list of close by gas stations, restaurants or other things your guests might be interested in doing while they are there during their visit.
These are all just some suggestions for you to think about before the onslaught of family and friends this spring and summer. Take the time to think about what would make you feel special, wanted and comfortable when you visit somewhere and then, put those ideas into action!--Jen Lush
