I know it's summer now, but, now is the time to do some light and bright updates for those not-so-sunny days ahead!
Go Neutral (With Pops of Color) - Light and airy neutral colors can brighten up a space. White walls (or shades of white) will certainly make a space bright. However, to avoid the space feeling sterile, add pops of color in accessories. These can be easily changed out to reflect the season, and it will keep the space feeling cozy.
Brighten Windows - Use light, slightly sheer drapes, curtains and shades where you can. If you have areas that don't need window coverings, let the sun shine in with no window treatments. Leave the room darkening curtains and blinds for the bedroom if necessary and the theater room!
No Bulky Furniture - Get rid of that old, bulky furniture. Smooth, clean lines that don't block the line of vision makes a space feel larger and more open.
Glass Decor - Use clear glass vases or dishes for accessories where you can. If the eye can see through it, the light can go through it too, keeping the room brighter.
Use the Sunshine - If you have a nice sunny spot in your home, use the space. Add a table and a chair to sit at and enjoy the sunshine in the afternoon. Use a big window as a headboard in the bedroom, especially if there are limited spaces for the bed. Have plants in places to drink up the sun and make a comfy place for you or your pet to nap!
Reflection - If you need more light, strategically placed mirrors will help take the light and bounce it around the room, making the space lighter and brighter. Mirrors can make a room feel larger and they are a great way to add a faux "window" when there is no window in a space.
Using some of these tricks to brighten up a room will be nice when the dark days close in!--Jen Lush
