Rental Scams - If you see a rental on Craig's List or somewhere else, be sure it's actually for rent before giving any money. Scammers will ask for money up front and then walk off with it when the place wasn't theirs to rent. Always best to confirm with a couple of sources first.
Wire Fraud - In Indiana, we have a Good Funds Law that says for any transactions over $10,000 the funds will need to be wired for the closing. Scammers like to send fake emails and change wiring instructions to get your money. Double check with your Realtor and the Title Company so that your wiring instructions are correct.
Deed Scams - Deeds are all public knowledge. Scammers like to send official looking mail saying you need to purchase a copy of your deed for a lot more money than it would cost for you to go to the court house and ask for a copy yourself. If you are still unsure, always consult your Realtor or Title Company as to how get what you need.
