Let's face it. We all have too much trash. Living in my house right now are just me, my husband, my dog Stella and my new kitten Snowky. (Snowflake is her official name from my granddaughter, but Snowky is her new nickname). You cannot imagine the amount of trash we have in a day. When my kids come home for a weekend, the garage dumpster looks like we just had a huge party! Seriously it's ridiculous. Here are a few things you can try to help decrease some of the trash footprint you leave behind:
Clever Cups - Insulated cups are one of my very favorite things. You can use them for coffee (and save some cash NOT going to get coffee on your way to work) or you can use them for cold drinks (that you might otherwise get in a plastic bottle). Now they make steel straws as well, so you can save more plastic waste by washing a straw too. *I take my insulated cups with me everywhere and my ice water stays ice water even in a hot car!
Clean it with Cloth - I am a user of paper towels. In fact, I use them way more than I should. However, I do have an old, small hamper full of clean rags for me to use. Old cloth diapers, fraying old hand towels, old wash cloths are all great for using as rags for everyday chores. Using cloth napkins over paper napkins are a good choice, too, to save on paper waste. *A less expensive way to use everyday cloth napkins is to buy some bandannas in bulk! They look cute with varying colors and are easy to wash up and keep.
Lovely Lunch Aids - Another way to make less paper waste is to use a lunch box and other washable containers for your lunch at work. There are so many attractive items to choose from that also can insulate something to keep it warm or cool. This can also save money by not eating out all the time when you are at work. It's a win, win!
Savvy Shopping - Using cloth, plastic lined or even insulated tote bags are great for shopping and can help eliminate those plastic bags that are everywhere. Keep a stash in the trunk of a car so you always have a bag handy when you are out shopping or even just to carry anything else you might need in and out of the house. Reusable bags are great for just about everything. They can be stylish and very affordable, too.
