Buying a new home can be exciting, however, you can get caught up in the excitement and make some purchases that can be a waste of your money. Here are a few things to think about before you open up your wallet:
Unnecessary Storage Items - Pretty baskets and boxes can be a really nice addition when you need a little extra storage in your home, however, don't buy storage items without a specific purpose. Only purchase those types of items when you have something specific you want to store, so you can pick the best option to store it. Otherwise, you will have a stack of nice baskets or boxes that you have to store away until you find a use for them!
Outdoor Purchases - Don't buy a lot of outdoor furniture, or items to use outdoors if you don't know what the climate is going to be like at the place you are moving into. For instance, don't spend a lot of money on a patio set, only to find out you can't stand sitting outside because of the bugs or the heat!
Trendy or Designer Items - Think of the space a trendy or designer item might end up in before you buy it. Keep designer things to spaces where they will be seen and treated accordingly and don't spend a ton of money on something that might go out of style in a few years. Keep your larger purchases to tried and true things in your home so they will last a long time.
Too Much, Too Fast - Bottom line is this, take time to live in your new space before you buy a bunch of anything. Once you have been there a while, you will have time to assess what you need in the space plus know what would really be a nice thing to add--and hopefully you won't break the bank when you do it!
