Realtors are people. We aren't just sales people. We are in the service business. With that being the case, there are certain things we possess or need to possess to not only be successful in our business, but to be successful as human beings. Over the next four weeks, I am going to address some of these characteristics. If you are a potential client, maybe these are things you need to see in your future Realtor. If you are a Realtor, maybe there are some things you need to work on. IF you are neither of those things--hopefully there will be some nuggets of truth you can apply to your life and your business, so let's get started with the HEART of a Realtor:
Passion for People - If you are a Realtor, you need to have a passion for people. Whether you consider yourself a people person or not, when you are in THIS business your main focus isn't the houses, it's the ones who will be living and working in the homes. Not only are you trying to help that one person, but, during the course of a transaction, you are helping them by thinking of their future or other's futures when it comes to the home too. You care that others will be in a safe environment. You care about their quality of life. Our interaction with others is what makes our lives full and rich. Whether we like everyone or not, we can learn from everyone something valuable for our own lives.
Passion for Service - A successful Realtor should have a passion for service. We all have met some bad sales people and some amazing ones. Generally the ones we grow to trust and continue to go back to, are the ones who go above and beyond to help us out when we are purchasing a product. They answer our questions, they take their time to listen to what we like and don't like and they have a way of making us feel like they are a friend and care about what we purchase, not just about their bottom line. They go the extra mile and make us feel like we are their only clients. When we serve others, we put them first. We listen, we care and we help when we can. This should be a driving force not only for a Realtor, but, in our lives with our families, friends and others we come in contact with.
Passion for Excellence - A successful Realtor has a passion to be the best he/she can be! Not only in their business, but, in their personal lives as well. They will continue their education so they can keep up with the current trends, laws and find faster and better ways to work with their clients through technology, personal care and service. As humans, we should always strive to be the best we can be. We should be willing to learn new things about ourselves, others and the world around us, so we can live our best lives! We shouldn't settle for just getting by every day. If you know each day you have tried your best, then you can rest easy each night knowing you gave it all that day. A lot of things we do won't be completed in a day. Most things are a process, and it's about continually doing your best. So, make it a point to strive each day for excellence. Maybe you won't achieve it today, but, you never know...today may be the life changing moment you have been waiting for--you will never know until you start!
