When we are decorating a home, we generally find different things we like and put them in the space without thinking too much of how the room is going to be used, barring dining room table in the dining room and comfy sofa in the family room. However, studies have shown that certain colors can affect our mood. What about decorating with this in mind?! Here are a few "vibes" you might want yourself or others to feel in a certain room and the colors to achieve that:
Happy and Inspirational - Use yellow, cream and other light neutrals to promote this uplifting space. The light and airy tints of these colors will bring someone's mood UP when they enter a room. These colors would be great for gathering spaces and sunrooms!
Full of Energy - Reds, Oranges and Bright Pinks will bring energy to a high activity area. Reds stimulate your appetite so maybe a dining room or kitchen may be great for these bold, energizing colors.
Able to Focus - Dark purple, gray and other dark neutrals combined with other minimal or natural decor will help with the ability to focus. Using these colors in an office, reading nook or homework area will help limit the distractions and help encourage everyone to focus on the task at hand!
Calm and Peaceful - Blues, greens and lavenders are calm and peaceful colors. These colors are even known to lower your heart rate! Bedrooms, bathrooms and any other room where you want to promote a peaceful, relaxing setting would be great spaces to enhance these gentle colors.
Of course, everyone has a particular color that speaks to them as well. Don't be afraid to use what you love in a space. You will live there and walking in a room where your favorite color is highlighted will uplift you no matter what color it is!--Jen Lush
