Nothing like a lot of stuff in your way while you are trying to fix a meal. Here are a few ways to get rid of some unnecessary kitchen clutter!
Downsize Appliances - If you have a large mixer or food processor opt for a smaller or mini appliance instead! They work really well especially if you aren't fixing huge meals. If you still want those appliances for the big holiday feasts, put them away in a cabinet or closet somewhere until then! The smaller appliances will fit in an accessible kitchen cabinet much easier.
Dump & Match - Rid your drawers and cabinets of duplicate or damaged items (like that half melted spatula). Next, match up your plastic containers with their lids. Those that don't have matches anymore, are overly stained or never used, dump. Worried you might "someday" need a plastic storage item? Save yogurt, sour cream or whipped topping containers. You can stack them easily and when you lose a top, you can just throw stuff away. They are also great for sending leftovers to family in. No stress about the container getting returned or not!
Recycle Bags - Instead of letting those plastic bags accumulate in a mess under the sink, only keep them from shopping trip to shopping trip. Take them back to the store to be recycled each week. Better yet, eliminate them by using reusable totes for your shopping needs.
Stash Stuff - If you can, keep a lot of extra stuff off the counter as much as you can and only get it out when you need it. Also, put smaller items together in caddies or bins in your cabinets, then you can pull the whole bin out when you need to get something. This will also help you not to lose smaller items, too.
Of course, one of the easiest ways to avoid too much clutter in your kitchen is to make sure you don't over buy containers, appliances or utensils. Also, when you find you aren't using an item, if it is in good shape, give it to someone who could use it or if not, just get rid of it. Then, when you find you really need something, you will have the space to tuck it safely away in your organized kitchen.
