Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest. ~ Mark Twain
It's not always an easy task to do the right thing. Sometimes it's actually way easier to follow the path of least resistance whether it is right or wrong, but, I have found if I try to do the right thing in as many circumstances I can, it's always a better choice. Doing the right thing doesn't mean you are always "right". It means to do your best for all involved in the best way you can. If you do, I guarantee that it will bring you several things.
Satisfaction - Knowing you did your best to do the right thing, in spite of the outcome, brings satisfaction. One dictionary definition of the word satisfaction is: fulfillment of one's wishes, expectations, or needs, or the pleasure derived from this. Doing the right thing actually makes us feel fulfilled. It might not always make us feel good if we have to make a choice that is hard, but when you do the right thing you know you did what you had to do and there is a comfort in that feeling.
Peace - Doing the right thing can give us a measure of peace, even if the outcome isn't what we expect. Human beings like to be in control of their lives. No matter what the issue is, if you have made the right choices, then you can rest in that peace regardless of what anyone else does, because you can only control your actions in this life and no one else's. All of your life might be utter chaos, but, there will still be a measure of peace if you do the right things.
Admiration - You never know who may be watching you to see how you respond to a situation. If you continue to do the right things, you will gain some admiration from those around you and you may, in fact, inspire others to do the right things as well.
Contempt & Shock - On the flip side, there will be others that would NOT do the right things and you may bother their conscience to the point that they are angry with you when you do what's right. Also, there may be others that are shocked that you did the right thing because they might not have been able to make the choice you did in the given situation.
Doing the right thing isn't always easy, but it is always best and you can rest in knowing that.
Until Next Time!
