Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. ~ Thomas Edison
How many times have you missed an opportunity because you just weren't sure it was worth the effort or risk? Or, how often are you just waiting for an opportunity to pop into your path? Opportunities aren't always just gifts. A lot of times, they come from hard work.
Throw Yourself In -You always hear stories of how people found the "love of their lives" when they weren't looking. Well, opportunities are similar, but, not exactly. When you are doing your best work, expanding your knowledge and generally pushing yourself to be your best, opportunities will cross your path. Being focused on the NOW with goals in your mind are good things and will cause others to see what you are doing and maybe consider you for whatever project or job they may have to offer. So, put your head down and do the best work you have ever done!
Opportunities Wear Camouflage - Opportunities don't always look like that is what they are. They come in many forms. Sometimes, you get an opportunity because you have taken the time to get to know someone and they throw an opportunity your way, other times you may end up doing one thing on a job, only to end up doing something else that you find is something that you never knew would be your calling. The job I have now is not at all what I first started out doing. My son needed some help with little odd jobs for his business at first (putting mailers and letters in envelopes and mailing them out was my very first task) that I would have done for free if he needed that from me, just to help him out. But, now, my job has evolved into so much more! I absolutely LOVE what I do and I have learned so much about myself (and others). I am glad my opportunity was hidden a bit in the beginning, because for me, having it all thrust on me at once would have scared me right out of doing it, but, as I have worked, little opportunities have come along that have led to others and now I am finding so many things that I love to do!
Believe in Yourself, in Others & in Dreams - Learn to believe in yourself and your abilities. I struggle with this still. Every time I make a mistake, I have to tell myself all over again that I am capable and can do much more than I ever thought. You have to be consistently believing in yourself, not just once or twice with this or that. Secondly, you need to believe in others and their capabilities. Sometimes, opportunity comes in the form of other people who help you along the way and who YOU HELP along the way as well. You have to keep believing in the good in others, even when all you see is the bad. Don't give up on someone too soon, because you never know what your connection to them might mean in their future or yours! The last thing to keep believing in is that dreams do come true. Sometimes, believing in an outlandish dream will just help you heal some negativity in your life, other times, you will be put in places in your life that lead you to fulfilling those dreams. Still, there are times that your dreams morph and change and before you know it, you are truly "living your dream" and you had no idea that was what you really wanted until you were doing it!
The bottom line with opportunity is that we do create some opportunities in our lives because of the work we put in. So, let's roll up our sleeves and get started!
