Before spring has sprung, maybe now is a good time to do some freshening up around the house. Here are a few quick and easy updates you can do to make your home look it's best!
Shop at Home - Don't rush out and buy a bunch of new things! Look and see what things you can use in your home now (that is in another room or stored away in an attic, basement or garage) and see how a certain piece can be used in a new way. Maybe you have an older dresser that isn't being used that can be moved to another room to be used as a small buffet in a dining room or as game storage in an entertaining space. Once you look at items in a different way, you may find that you won't need to buy much of anything.
Paint it Out - Painting walls, furniture, hardware and fixtures can really change a look in a space for very little money! You can paint something whimsical for a child's room or just make something old and tired look brand new. You can even use metallic paint to make a plastic item not look plastic! There are so many things you can do with paint, all you need is an idea to get you started!
Consistency Counts - If your home has the same color palette throughout, you can move items from room to room if you get bored without too much hassle. Or, maybe if you want a bit more diversity, keep you kitchen and dining in the same palette, your living and family areas with a different palette and maybe your bathrooms similar as well. Then, items from those areas can be more interchangeable if you would like them to be as well. The easier it is to change something from room to room, the more diversity you can have with your décor without increasing your budget.
Simple is Best - If you want to just freshen up a space, you don't need to do a lot of changes. Just a tablecloth can make a big change in a room, or changing the look on some shelving. Sometimes just rearranging the furniture can wake a place up a bit!
2 for 1 - Look for items that have dual purposes, such as a large trunk that can be used as a coffee table and storage or a old china cabinet as storage in your breakfast nook in the kitchen. Anything that has multi uses is generally better than one item that can only serve in one way. You have enough of that with your big items like your bed, couch or dining room table!
If you are tired of looking at the same old things, use your imagination and see what kind of ideas you can come up with to freshen up your home for the upcoming year!
