I keep hearing how formal dining rooms are a thing of the past. I think for everyday eating that may be the case, but, I also think there is still a place for an inviting dining experience--not just a place to eat a meal.
Be Personal - One way to make your dining room more inviting is to add a lot of personal touches. Family photos, dining heirlooms or mementos from travel adventures are all ways to make the space unique to you and your family as well as open up ways for conversation at a meal with guests. The ideas can be endless, except maybe stay away from things that might not be nice to look at while you are eating. This may not be the room for your favorite taxidermy item!
Color, Color, Color - Color is a way to make any room more inviting, exciting, calming or just interesting. Color can be added to the walls, or through accessories. Figure out how you want your diners to feel when they eat and colorize accordingly! Make it a lovely space where people will enjoy their meal.
Humor Helps - Humor is a great way to get people talking and laughing at your dinner party! Add some décor touches that will bring a smile to your guests faces. There is nothing that can help others relax and enjoy their time more than laughter.
Out of the Box - Do something different and surprising in your dining room. Make a Lazy Susan centerpiece, or use bandanas for fun, cloth napkins. If you have a beautiful view somewhere in your home, why not make that your dining room? Beautiful scenery can add to a great dining experience!
Use your imagination and think of something different to add to your dining room to make it comfy, fun and a place that you will want to use more often!
