It's officially SPRINGTIME! Not only is it the time of year that flowers begin springing up, but, it's also the time of year we may give a bouquet of flowers (or receive one!). Here are a few ideas from florists on how to make your own arrangement appealing to the eye, but on how to keep those flowers fresh for as long as you can:
Harmony is Key - Forget symmetry. You want off center harmony. For every two large flowers on one side, add one smaller flower on the other side. Mix it up. It doesn't have to be matching. You don't want your vase to look square with flowers. Vary heights so that they look more natural.
Variety Brings Interest - Not only do height differences make things look natural, but, different types of flowers or colors of the same flower make the bouquet more fun and interesting. Have you ever looked at a garden full of different flowers? Think of how all those colors make you feel! Use those thoughts when you build your bouquet.
Care is Important - First you have to cut the stems correctly. Use sharp scissors and trim stripped stems at a 45 degree angel to prevent wilting and mold. Trim them again every few days. Also, be sure to change the water every day, this will your blooms last that much longer.
You may not be a florist, but using these small tips may help those bouquets look professional or at least help them to last longer!
