Since the pandemic kept so many people in their homes for so long, it is now affecting what kinds of features people want in their homes. Here are some of the things that are affecting the renovation trends now and in the future:
Larger Windows, Please! - When you are stuck inside, having a lot of natural light sure helps keep the blues away! Larger windows will help bring the outside in and make your home feel more spacious and open. People found out how much of a difference this can make when they were stuck inside. Plan to see this feature happen a lot more often now.
Multi-Functional Spaces - Another thing that has become important is to have spaces that can serve more than one purpose in a home, so that they can be easily changed to accommodate whatever your needs are. Building on to a home is expensive as are major renovations. When you have rooms that can suit several purposes (such as a bedroom that can become an office) it helps make sure that your home will function for you for a long time.
Better Clutter Management - Spaces where things can be stored out of sight, or just less things in general are on trend as well. Clutter can make a person feel closed in and there has been studies showing that it can lead to depression. People don't want to feel closed in or depressed and they want their homes to feel open and happy. I don't think this trend is going to go away any time real soon either. People will want more storage solutions in every space and have the "less is more" style of décor too.
Going Green - With climate change being a focus in so many things now, it is also inspiring how people renovate their homes. Adding eco-friendly appliances, furniture and designs are all at the top of the list. Unless huge strides are made to make our planet better, this will become more of a staple not only in home renovation, but in new builds as well. Not to mention, people want to do what they can to save on energy (and energy bills) in the long run.
This look into future trends seems very practical. I believe these will be staples in homes for years to come. Maybe this is one good thing to come out of a very hard year. If we all can live more simple, practical home lives, just think of all the other adventures we can have!
