If you want to have some sustained happiness, practice these steps often!
Be Kind - If you are ever feeling blah, just be kind to someone, you'll be surprised how it brings a smile to your face!
Try Something New - Every time you try something new it shows you something different about yourself and any chance you can learn about who you are and what you like (or don't like) it makes you stronger and happier. So try that new food or activity you haven't done!
Be Bad (sometimes) - We work so hard to do all the right things at all the right times that we don't take any chances. I can't stay up that late, I can't do something spontaneous, I am a certain age and we don't do that--forget it! Sometimes it's OK to be "bad". To take a chance, to enjoy that quick trip that was unplanned or stay up past your bedtime to enjoy someone's company! It will be sure to put a smile on your face!
Be Grateful (always) - If you want to be happy, be grateful for everything. Say it out loud! Be grateful for family and friends, your job, your home--everything! If you are always grateful for whatever you have in this life, you will live in happiness.
Stay Out of It - You will stay happy if: You stay out of family problems. Stay out of a friend's drama. Don't immerse yourself into other peoples' problems and you will find that inner joy more often than not. For some reason, human beings seem drawn to all the craziness in the world when their own craziness is settled. Don't do it! STAY OUT OF IT and feel the relief when that dark cloud lifts!
Go Out - Get out of the house even if you don't feel like it. Nine times out of ten, you will feel better afterward. Go to that party even when you think you won't want to. Keep that lunch date and go to dinner even when the PJs and TV seem to call you to them. A change of pace and space, can make a heart smile.
Give Appreciation - Don't keep your appreciation to yourself! Tell others often how much you appreciate them. It makes you think about whatever way they have blessed you and makes you feel all warm and happy inside. Don't realize too late that you never told them how much you appreciated them, that will be regret and sadness. Make sure anyone and everyone who has blessed you knows how much it meant to you.
Do It Now - If there was just one thing a global pandemic may teach a person it is to do those things you have been putting off NOW. Don't wait! None of us know how many chances we will get to do something, so seize those opportunities when the come along. Life happens and things get in the way when you least expect it, so, make sure you get to do all the things you have wanted to do before it's too late.
Humans can't be happy all of the time, but, we sure can do our best to live in happiness as much as possible. Make a practice of these steps and see how many more days you are smiling when you do. I think you might be pleasantly surprised as to how many days you are completely happy.
