Ever since I was a kid, I have loved the sunshine! Getting sunburns were a given every year. Now, we know so much more about how important it is to protect yourself from too much sun. Our skin is the largest organ we have and we need to do all that we can to help it stay healthy for a long as we can!
Block It - Of course, one of the things we need to do first is use sunblock. Not just once in a while, but, every day. The sun's rays come through on rainy and winter days, too, so if you are going to be out make sure you are protected. Using an SPF of 30 is the best to do the trick. Don't forget unprotected ears, feet or the top of your head if you are lacking hair! Once you are in a routine of protecting your skin, you won't even think about the time it takes. It will become as natural as brushing your teeth. Speaking of teeth, if you wear lipstick, chances are your lips will be protected. If not, however, use a sunblocking lip balm to be sure your lips stay soft and protected, too!
Morning and Evening - In the hot summer especially, consider your main times being outside be morning or evening. Stay in during the hottest parts of the day. The suns rays are the strongest in the middle of the day and the chances you will burn your skin are much higher.
Check It - Check your skin and your partner's skin for any weird moles or spots that may creep up from the sun. There are places we can't check ourselves, so have someone help you keep an eye on your skin and how it looks as well.
Age Matters - This is especially important for the very young or senior adults. Their skin is more delicate and can become damaged very easily and can lead to all sorts of issues down the road. Make sure you reapply sunblock to the very young when they are outside and the elderly as well.
A beautiful, tanned body can mean more chances for skin cancer down the road. There are a lot of excellent self tanning lotions (that also have sunscreen in them) that can help you get that lovely, tanned look with less risk of skin damage. Be careful. The sun feels good and can truly lift our spirits, but, too much can cause a lot of heartache if you aren't careful.--Jen Lush
