A champion is defined not by their wins but by how they can recover when they fall.--Serena Williams
When we hear the word "champion" we think of someone who wins a LOT, especially in sports. But are those the only champions? I don't think so. There are a lot of people who are champions at life! Here are a few character traits of a champion, just in case you would like to be one (at life anyway!):
Work Hard - To become a champion, you have to work hard. A true champion has a regimen that the follow daily. That regimen doesn't only consist of practice time, but also all the other things they may need to follow such as what they eat and how much sleep they get. It's hard work keeping up a routine and do all the things necessary to make sure you are successful. Consistent hard work and continued self care as well will help you to be a champion in your daily life.
Don't Give Up - People don't become a champion over night and on the first try! It takes a lot of mistakes and trying to learn what all you need to do to be successful. It can be daunting trying to be really good at something and then fail a lot at it. But a champion doesn't quit. They just keep pushing through until they get better and better. Sometimes they may need to shift a tactic they are using, but they don't just stop when it gets hard.
Learn From Your Mistakes - Along with not giving up a champion will not only see the mistakes they make but learn to not keep making the same ones over and over. Some people can learn something the first time they mess up. Others it may take a few times before they finally learn the key to making something work correctly. A champion will adjust and correct when needed. They won't try to ask to have the rules change for them, they learn to conform when they need to.
Stand Out - There are a lot of people who win at things, and they may even cheat to win, but a true champion doesn't just win. A champion stands out because of their consistency of excellence and good character as well. A champion can be a good example to others because they exude hard work, determination and humbleness because they know what it has taken to get to where they are. Champions are remembered.
We can all be champions in our lives if we don't give up when things get hard. Keep growing and learning and making the hard choices you need to make to be the best you can be. Help others when they are struggling and be a good example to those who need one. Be a champion in your life and pass on the torch to others so our future can be full of strong, successful people who want the best for themselves and for those around them!
