Getting your eyes checked may not happen for everyone on a regular basis. However there are a few things that can sneak up on you and keep your vision from being the sharpest it can. Catching problems early can help save your eyesight for the future. Here are a few to be aware of:
Any Injuries - You accidentally get hit in the eye with your kid's toy, or run into a friends elbow, you need to get your eye check. Eyes are delicate organs and you may have a subtle injury and not know it. It's better to be safe than sorry later.
Squinty Eye - If you find that bright light makes you squint more than usual, there could be any number of issues that could cause it. You may have dry eyes, or maybe you have had too much screen time. It also can be cause by inflammation either in your eye or somewhere else in your body. If you get your eyes checked the ophthalmologist would recommend another doctor if you need one as well. So schedule that appointment.
Headaches Abound - Stress can cause headaches but so can changes in your vision. You may not realize you aren't seeing as well before you may have had a headache (or several). If you can't seem to find another answer for those headaches, it's time to get your eyes checked.
Little Changes in Vision - Ever see "floaters" in your vision? What about bright flashes of light? Is your peripheral vision not as good as it used to be? If you have had any small changes in your vision, you need to get it checked out. It could be nothing or it could be urgent, but you won't know until your doctor looks in your eye.
Momentary Blackness - If you lose your vision for a moment and then it slowly comes back, it could be an indication of something that needs immediate attention. At worst, it may be a mini stroke in your eye which might put you at risk for a much bigger stroke. Whatever the case it's not something to ignore.
Taking care of our vision is as important as taking care of our heart. While some things may happen that we can't fix, there are a lot of things that can happen that can healed if we catch them in time, so please get your eyes checked!
