Lemon juice has antibacterial acidity and can be used to polish everything from glass to cutting boards. Mix it with baking soda and you can have a scrub to tackle stains. Vinegar is great on soap scum. Do some research to see what other household items that you may have that can be used to clean your home and how much to use. Just because it's natural doesn't mean you don't have to be careful, but it sure is better than using toxic chemicals that will end up in a landfill along with their toxic plastic bottles. If you do choose to buy cleaning products, choose items that are planet friendly in recyclable packaging.
Limit Disposable Items - Another simple thing you can do is to limit disposable items. Paper towels have become a huge asset during the pandemic, however for a lot of cleaning needs using washable clothes to mop, and clean things can save not only trees but money as well! Be sure to keep certain cloths for certain jobs and instead of using that sponge, opt for a brush instead. Just be sure to wash those cloths between cleanings and keep the brush clean as well.
Natural Scents - You can spend so much money on things to make your home smell clean and fresh, but some of those scents can be toxic in themselves plus you have to throw away the containers they come in. Choose natural things that can bring a lovely scent into your home naturally. Fresh citrus fruit out in a bowl can help, but boiling a bit of orange peel and cinnamon or clove can give a lingering scent in the air. You can also use herbs, eucalyptus or pine to add a lovely fragrance as well. Of course the best way to have a clean scent in your home is to keep your home clean as much as possible!
